Welcome Church Partners

Get Your Church Group Involved!

Join us on our mission to change lives! We make it easy for church groups to make a difference and at the same time learn about Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities, our ministries, and the people we serve.  To begin, you can Register Here to fill out a church group volunteer application.  Hundreds of churches support the Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities each year, and without committed volunteers from local churches, we wouldn't be able to reach as many people with essential services.  Please see below for information on how to partner with us through Serving, Learning, and Giving.

Serve

Here are our most current volunteer opportunities for church groups:

  • Serving Meals - We serve breakfast (6:15AM - 8AM), lunch (11:30AM-1:30PM) and dinner (5:15PM-7PM) every day.  Groups of 10 or less are welcome to join us.  This is a great opportunity to see our ministry firsthand while making a difference in the lives of our students.  You can sign-up here: https://volunteers.ugmtc.org/calendar
  • Medical Screening - In response to COVID-19, we are screening all of our students, volunteers, staff, and community members prior to entering our Men's Campus building.  We are in need of individual or small groups (2-3 volunteers) to help us with this.  Please send anybody interested to sign-up through this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0a4faba823a1ff2-medical
  • Item Drives -  Churches can encourage their congregations to collect essential items for our community. Please visit our donation page to get more info on our most needed items, where to drop off and times our Central Services is open: https://www.ugmtc.org/get-involved/give/
  • Seasonal Opportunities - There are lots of ways to serve seasonally throughout the year, from our Thanksgiving Food Bag Drive, gardening, cleaning, WCCO Radiothon, etc.  Due to COVID-19 and UGMTC's response to the safety of our volunteers, staff, and students, please email or call Josh Windham, Volunteer Services Manager, to find out how to sign-up for seasonal opportunities at jwindham@ugmtc.org or 651-789-7645

Small Groups

If your group is 10 or less and you have volunteered with us before, log in to view our Opportunity Calendar to find a date and time that works for you. If you have difficulty signing up, please email volunteers@ugmtc.org

Large Groups

*Due to COVID19, UGMTC is not accepting groups larger than 10 people.  We hope to lift these restrictions as local and state guidelines change.

If your group is more than 10 or you have not volunteered with us before, let’s have a conversation so we better understand what you are looking for with your experience.  Please email volunteer services at volunteers@ugmtc.org

Learn

We invite your church to go deeper in understanding the complexities of poverty, homelessness, and addiction.  Here are some easy ways to get started:

Students Testimonials - Hear first hand how homelessness, poverty, or addiction affected a student and the ways that Union Gospel Mission provides a second chance.

Book Study - Put together a book study using Same Kind of Different As Me, Bridges Out of Poverty, Under the Overpass, or other books that put a face to homelessness.

Lunch & Learn - A member of our staff would be happy to come to your church to share about homelessness, poverty, and addiction. We can also bring one of our students along to share a testimony and take questions from the congregation.

Poverty Education Panel - Interested in holding a panel discussion about poverty, homelessness, or addiction? A chaplain or other staff member would be happy to help break myths about these important issues and help your group take the next step.

Please email volunteers@ugmtc.org to get more information on how to schedule these opportunities

Give

Your help is needed to pay for the various ministries of the Union Gospel Mission.  Here are some ways you can provide financially while also engaging with the students and guests who benefit from your generosity.

Item Drives - Just like at your own home, the Mission needs to replenish supplies.  When your company, school, church, or group helps us restock the items at the Mission, you are providing hope to people in need.  We take diapers/wipes, socks/underwear, toiletries, metro-transit passes, new or gently used clothes, single-serve snacks, makeup/hair care, and cleaning supplies.

Host a Fundraiser - Help raise funds for Union Gospel Mission by providing a car wash, pancake breakfast, spaghetti dinner, craft or jewelry sale.  Even collecting can food items for our holiday food bag giveaway! Please visit our donation page to find more ways to support us financially: https://www.ugmtc.org/get-involved/give/

Please email volunteers@ugmtc.org to get more information on how to schedule these opportunities
